Where is Duke?

While checking the sheep in the pastures, one if the things I’m keeping an eye out for is Duke, our guard dog. He is there to watch over the sheep if predators are out and about. I never know which pasture I will find him in. Sometimes it can be like looking for Waldo in a group of people. He recognizes the Kubota though and usually come right up to it. I always say hi to him and give him a long, nice massaging pet on his head. He knows why I am there- to feed him! He waits patiently, while I scoop out some hard dog food and then open a can of soft dog food to pour over it. He is a big dog, but is skinny so he needs these extra calories. I watch as he picks out the soft food first, and I wonder, “What does he see every day and night?” He’s a guard dog that is truly needed and has an important job we don’t want to take for granted.
