Meet the team
Stephen Simon- He is a fifth generation farmer and CEO of the farm. He has been married to Sarah Simon for 22 years making his children sixth generation on the farm, Oliver, 12 and Autumn, 10. Stephen went into telecommunications in 1997 in Goodland, Kansas. He graduated and worked in the telecommunications field until 2013, when he moved back to Quinter Kansas to raise his children and to continue working for the family farm. Stephen enjoys raising livestock the most. This has driven him to increase the flock of 700 ewes, that his parents raised, to a flock of 1,800 ewes. In doing so it involves him in all activities of the flock including feeding and nutrition. Feeding that many animals led him to develop his custom forage system. It allows him to have more control over the feeding process
and cut costs. He enjoys golfing and relaxing in the evenings with his family.
Curtis Simon- Raised on a cattle and hog farm, he got introduced to sheep when he and Deb married and he became part of this farming operation. After his father-in-law retired in 1982, he began as the main operator and began expanding the operation. When taking over there were about 400 ewes, over the years they doubled the size of the flock to 800, and for a few years purchased and fed out 3,000 feeder lambs and added several additional sheep barns. Currently, being semi-retired on the sheep end of the operation, he still helps feed when needed, does a lot of the maintenance and is called upon as advisor. He still does all the planting and harvesting of the wheat, barley, milo and feed crops that they raise every year. He has found out it’s a little easier with age to work from the seat of some piece of equipment. It is hard to let go, but being able to get away more has been a welcome change.
Debra Simon-Born and raised on this farm, the 4th generation. After one year of pursuing a secretarial certificate from a local junior college she returned home, married and together her and Curtis began their farming career. Although working several full and part time jobs over the years, she primarily puts her secretarial skills to work as the farm bookkeeper, managing accounts, paying bills, crop insurance and keeping abreast of farm programs. Until their son returned home she spent most of her time as the main hired hand. She handled all the bottle lambs, lambing out the ewes, assisting in feeding, driving harvest truck and working the fields. Now, semi-retired, she still helps with the farms office work and helps out where needed through the lambing and harvest season. Her favorite job now is being grandma to four amazing grandchildren!
Sarah Simon- New to the farming world, she never thought she would end up here, even though she is a native Kansan. She has a degree in Behavioral Science and a minor in Elementary Education. She has substituted and taught for sixteen years both in the metropolitan area of Denver and the rural community of Quinter. Starting a second career, as of the summer of 2025, she is employed through the family farm and enjoys working on the website, checking the pastures. reading, and being with her family.
Alex Raveling- Born and raised in Northwest Iowa, then living all through the upper mid-west he settled down in Kansas in 2013. With only culinary arts and military experience under his belt, he had little to no knowledge of actual farm work when starting. He dove straight in and learned about raising sheep. His days are filled with handling most of the day-to-day chores along with new projects to expand the farm, general maintenance, and tending to all the needs of the flock.
