Guardians of the Flock
Every farm has its unsung heroes. Ours just happen to have four legs.
“Dog” in his element and doing his job well.
Coyotes are a real problem out here in Gove County. If you’ve ever sat outside at night, you’ve probably heard them—howling from the tree lines, sometimes too close for comfort. With as much time and care as we put into raising our flock, we can’t afford to leave their safety to chance.
That’s where the dogs and donkeys come in.
Our livestock guardian dogs live with the flock full-time. They don’t chase sheep—they blend in with them, sleep beside them, and move with them. Their job isn’t to bark at every squirrel—it’s to step in when something serious threatens the flock. And they know the difference. When coyotes push in too close, our dogs are ready. No second-guessing, no hesitation.
The donkeys have a different style. They patrol. They’re alert, stubborn in the best way, and they’re not afraid to stomp or charge if something doesn’t look right. Coyotes don’t like to mess with them, and we like it that way.
We don’t rely on traps or poisons. We believe in natural protection, animals looking after animals—just like it’s always been done on the Plains.
It’s a quiet system that works while we sleep, and we’re thankful for it every day.
